Cupcakes or Cash? I’ll Take Cupcakes.

Hamburger cupcakes. Awesome.

How much money would it take to get you to quit eating your favorite food? Would you give up pizza for $100? $100,000? A cool $1 million?

For many Americans, the answer is “No.”

According to a survey by the American Heart Association, cash is not king when it comes to our favorite eats. About 40% of us won’t take any amount of money to give up pizza (or pasta or cake or whatever). Other highlights:

  • Nearly a third said it would take $1 million to give up their faves
  • 21% said they’d do it for $100,000
  • 10% said they’d do it for $100

It’s an interesting question. Because while I could see taking cash to give up, say, dark chocolate for some defined period of time (a month? six months?), I can’t imagine giving it up forever. So I see where these folks are coming from.

And hey, American Heart Association, what gives? I realize that you want to encourage people to eat healthily and lay off the alfredo sauce, but everything is fine in moderation. I have a suspicion that if you offered people $100,000 to eat pizza no more than once or twice a month, you’d have more takers.

What’s your favorite food of all time, and how much cash would it take to keep you from eating it ever again?
